Local Weather Brief
Updated: 12 Noon Tuesday
(Cold Front Arrival Time)
Get ready for BIG changes in the temperatures.
Please keep in mind that all of this is based on computer weather models and 'Official' weather sources around the state and as such there will be changes to the exact forecasts as we get closer to the event.
Per all weather service offices in South Texas, “Residents should prepare for a sharp return to winter conditions and for possible frozen precipitation this upcoming weekend”.
The STRONG COLD FRONT is forecast to be near the coast by Saturday around 2am which will lead to major temperature drops by Saturday night.
Rarely are both models in such close agreement so this weather event needs to be watched very closely.
BOTH the American and the European continue to trend towards downward as to COLD TEMPERATURES WITH FREEZING TEMPERATURES AFTER the STRONG COLD FRONT SATURDAY comes through.
Both models show low temperatures all the way to the coast to be in the mid to upper 20s Sunday and Monday mornings throughout the region. The European model is more aggressive than the American model with regards to low temperatures.Wind chill temperatures on teens and low 20s can be expected in many areas.
This event is following the progression that the 2021 winter event did. Just saying that for information.
With regards to what areas, highest confidence for this is north of a line from San Antonio to Houston. It is simply too early to know which areas and what form of precipitation this event will bring.
What will determine if there will be wintery precipitation and where it will be located will be the timing of the cold front and the arrival of Pacific moisture that will be entering the area this weekend.
Latest model run shows possible freezing drizzle and sleet, and yes, snow for much of South Texas Sunday and Monday. As of 7am, only rain is forecast for the immediate Coastal Bend region. Again, that could change.
Again, it is all about timing as stated above. This will become clearer as we get closer to Saturday so stay tuned.
It never hurts to be prepared. It is easier to prepare those exposed pipes while the temperatures are in the 70s as they will be through Friday.
Things will become clearer with each new weather model run and things should be clearer by Thursday.
As you shop at HEB, stock up on that Hot Chocolate Mix with those little marshmallows. Suspect you are going to need it.
Of course, the website will be updated with each model run and updates will be sent out as warranted.
